Travel Health and Immunisations
We are pleased to offer our registered patients a travel health service.
Our nurse uses up to date information to advise you on your health needs related to destinations around the world. They can administer most vaccinations and provide prescriptions for treatments where needed.
May we take this opportunity to wish you a pleasant trip!
Booking your Appointment with the Nurse
Travel Risk Assessment: If you are planning a trip abroad, please complete a Travel Risk Assessment form (available from reception) with details of your proposed journey.
Travel Appointment: After completing the form please contact the surgery to arrange your assessment appointment with our specially trained nurse. The nurse will then contact you as soon as possible (usually within 2 working days) and will advise on what vaccinations are recommended and whether any other precautions are needed.
Please Allow Plenty of Time: Travel Vaccine Policy: Patients are required to give at least 8 weeks’ notice of their intention to travel abroad, to enable a thorough risk assessment to be performed and appropriate vaccine ordered. Patients who are unable to give at least 8 weeks’ notice of intention to travel abroad will be signposted to the local travel pharmacy.
Mosquito Bite Avoidance for Travellers
In many tropical countries, mosquitoes can spread diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, West Nile, malaria, yellow fever and Zika. Here are five simple rules you should follow to reduce your risk of infections spread by mosquitoes.
We offer most of the travel health service at no additional charge to the patient. However the NHS does not cover the cost of all the treatments you may need. Therefore, for some services you may need to pay.
A list of these charges can be requested at reception.
Well Person Clinic
A Well Person consultation can be compared to a Ministry of Transport (MOT) test on a vehicle. In other words, it gives an opportunity for a general health check and includes checks such as blood pressure, height, weight, lifestyle advice and urinalysis. It also gives you, the patient, the chance to bring up any concerns about your general health that you may have.
Smoking Cessation Clinic
Help with smoking cessation includes one to one consultation over an average period of twelve weeks. During this time, you will receive advice and support from one of our experienced practice nurses as well as undergoing nicotine replacement therapy. Stopping smoking requires motivation and commitment but the success rate of our patients is well over 50%.
Heart Problems Clinic
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) care falls into two areas, newly diagnosed and ongoing help and advice for patients with heart problems. Our practice nurses provide the majority of this care, supported by the doctors. Various tests are performed to make the initial diagnosis, for example electrocardiograms (ECGs) and blood tests and once confirmed, advice regarding medication and lifestyle are offered. Ongoing monitoring involves a recall system and a personalised treatment plan for each patient.
Diet and Nutrition Clinic
Advice on diet and nutrition is offered routinely during consultations. However, one to one work in this area is available if appropriate.
Diabetes Clinic
Our approach to diabetic care is initially similar to that of asthma. However, diabetic care tends to be more complex and is therefore monitored more closely with more individual ongoing education about lifestyle. This would include such things as diet, smoking habits and exercise.
