Practice Services

Carers

It is helpful to know if you have a Carer (someone who takes on an unpaid caring role) or if you are a Carer for someone else. We have a page dedicated to Carers where you can also register with us as a carer so we can provide you with additional support.

District Nursing

The District Nursing team provides nursing to patients in their home. Their caseload includes patients (of all ages) recently discharged from hospital, patients requiring long-term care or terminally ill patients. Additionally, the team runs a daily wound care clinic at the surgery.

Family Planning

Both doctors and nurses offer contraceptive services. Guidance on the best method of contraception for you is given and these include the pill, contraceptive injections/implants, caps and coils, patches or condoms. Emergency contraception is also part of the service.

Health Visitor

Health Visitors care for patients of all ages; however, their main involvement is with children, monitoring their development and advising parents at each stage. They hold a number of clinics at the surgery that include developmental checks and also hearing tests. They also run a baby clinic at the Children’s centre, Waterloo Street.

An important part of the Health Visitors’ role is Child Protection – ensuring that children are living in a secure and safe environment.

Immunisations and Travel Health

All childhood or adolescent immunisations are offered along with influenza and pneumococcal for the appropriate patient groups.

For travel vaccinations please refer to our Travel Health and Immunisations section.

Maternity Care

We have a midwife who holds clinics each week at the surgery at which she monitors and advises women throughout their pregnancy.

Mental Health Nursing

We have a full time Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) at the surgery. He receives referrals from the rest of the clinical team and offers help and advice including counselling. He is also involved in the care of patients with an enduring mental illness.

Minor Surgery

The practice has an air-conditioned operating suite and offers a range of minor surgical procedures for our own patients and for patients referred from other surgeries.

In house Vasectomy Service

The vasectomy service that we offer is not just for Carlton Group Practice patients but also for anyone who is referred to us by their own doctor. We are the main provider of this service in the Burton on Trent area.

The normal NHS route a 2 stop consultation and operation service.

The operation itself is simple, performed under a local anaesthetic and usually takes around half an hour. Vasectomies are performed by an experienced surgeon in our air-conditioned operating suite.

In house Other Operations

As well as the in-house vasectomy service, we are now available to perform carpal tunnel and trigger finger operations in our purpose designed operating suite.

This service is not only offered to our own patients but also patients from other surgeries in Staffordshire and parts of Derbyshire too. The normal NHS route is to be referred to us by your GP if he or she feels it appropriate, instead of them referring you to a hospital

The operation would be performed here under a local anaesthetic. If you would like further information, please contact our Practice Nurses who will be only too happy to help you.
